garden ideas for summer

With most of our summer holidays and plans being cancelled (see my blog post on the perks of pausing travel for more on that), more and more people are turning to their gardens to offer them the break that they need. There is actually a lot you can do to transform your backyard into your own private haven. Here are four ways you can prepare your garden for summer. And as always don’t hesitate to leave me a comment below if you have more inspiration to share.

A home spa

Who doesn’t dream of sipping a cold drink in a lukewarm open-air bath? I know I do! If you have the budget and the space, having a jacuzzi in your garden could be the perfect addition to your backyard. It will add a little touch of luxury and it’s perfect if you’re looking for a nice way to relax after a long day home-schooling or working from home. If you have kids, they’ll love it too!

A patio

Given the current circumstances, having a liveable and enjoyable outdoor space is heavenly… If your garden needs some TLC then this could be the perfect time to upgrade your patio or porch. You could purchase some outdoor furniture, a parasol or even a gazebo. Don’t forget to add some outdoor lights from places such as Cox & Cox for that cosy, “hygge” vibe during the long summer evenings.

A barbecue

If you don’t already own one, now is the time! Barbecues are a great addition to any garden; nothing says summer more than the smell of a wood fire. And you don’t even need to eat meat to enjoy barbecuing, you could easily grill some peppers or corn on the cob, they’re delicious.

A vegetable garden

For those of you who want to do something more productive during the lockdown, starting a vegetable patch could be great for your garden and your future enjoyment. There’s nothing better than fresh tomatoes from your own backyard. Can you imagine all the amazing salads you’ll be able to make?

All in all, having a garden is a privilege that you should definitely cherish. There’s a lot you can do and add to it to make it perfect for the summer. Obviously, it all depends on your budget and the space you have but there’s always a way to add a little something to it. If you only have a balcony, don’t feel discouraged, there’s actually plenty of resources online to turn it into a true outdoor paradise.
