life and blog update

I'm back with a little life and blog update today.

If you saw my 2021 Room Refresh blog post, you will know that at the start of 2021 I started a new freelance job, working at Decor & Design Scotland part time. At the start of July I added another part time job into the mix, working as a Content Editor at ALHAUS. And because I am essentially working full time hours, blogging at the weekend and reading from a Kindle/iPad whenever I have free time, it's been a lot for my eyes.

I'm not sure if it is because I've been spending basically all day, other than when I've been getting out for a walk, looking at screens. But after having perfect 20-20 vision my whole life, I now have a slight prescription in one eye and dry eyes more generally.

My first pair of prescription glasses

When it came to getting my very first pair of glasses there was only one choice for me and that was Specsavers.

I had an idea in mind when it came to the kind of frames that I wanted to try. And ultimately these were clear frames. But it took a trip to the Glasgow Fort Specsavers store for me to fall in love with a rosier hue of clear frames that I absolutely adore.

Designed with smaller faces in mind, the entire Kylie Minogue Eyewear range is fantastic. But I opted for the Fever pair in Pink. This was after having my eyes thoroughly tested, both with the NHS funded eye exam and the fancy OCT scan, which is an additional £10.

Since I was due my NHS eye test and had been experiencing a bit of headache-feeling behind one of my eyes, I felt that it was worth trying out the additional OCT scan. This scan takes 1000 photographs to create a 3D image of the eye and can detect conditions up to 4 years earlier than normal than standard eye test. Let's just say, it felt very space age.

If you're also feeling a strain in your eyes from being at a screen all day, I would definitely recommend booking in for an eye examination. You should typically have one every two years, unless advised by your optometrist to have one more frequently. And they can help to detect a variety of eye conditions, as well as general health conditions such as high blood pressure.

Moving some blog content over to Instagram Stories

Because my eyes have needed a bit of a rest at the weekends, I've been thinking about moving some of my content over to Instagram Stories (I'm @ellistuesday on there if you don't already follow me). And what I mean when I say that is, instead of doing a monthly round up of what I've been watching on here, I'll instead share what I'm watching in the moment, sharing my thoughts as I watch on Stories.

I've already been asking if you're Team Ben or Team Paxton when it comes to Never Have I Ever. And sharing the exciting news that certain TV shows are back or now streaming on Netflix (Chicago Fire and Chicago Med, I'm looking at you).

What do you think? Would you be watching my Stories? And what do you think of my new glasses?
