drunk elephant skincare routine

Over the past few years I've really started to understand my skin. And how to deal with the various different issues that it gives me. From dehydration to uneven skin texture and often angry blemishes. There are some products that me and my skin now can't go without. And several of them are from one of my favourite brands out there; Drunk Elephant. So today I'm sharing how I got on with a solely Drunk Elephant skincare routine.

If you don't already know, Drunk Elephant is available at Space NK and Boots here in the UK. And if you're in the US, you'll find it at Sephora, as well as on Drunk Elephant's own website. You'll also have seen my review of their hair and body products, courtesy of the Head To Toe gift set here.

But let's get back to today's blog post. I've been putting an AM to PM Drunk Elephant skincare routine to the test for over two months now. And here is how I got on;

Cleanse

Drunk Elephant Beste No.9 Jelly Cleanser

Drunk Elephant currently have three cleansing products. There's the Slaai Makeup Melting Butter Cleanser, the new E-rase Milki Micellar Water. And the original Beste No.9 Jelly Cleanser.

I would probably recommend Beste first, if you're looking to try one of DE's cleansers. As it does exactly what you'd want a good cleansing product to do. It removes makeup in a flash, is super gentle on the skin and doesn't leave it feeling stripped or tight afterward. Plus I adore the jelly texture of it.

Drunk Elephant E-rase Milki Micellar Water

However, during lockdown, I've almost exclusively been reaching for the E-rase Milki Micellar Water. I don't know about you but I haven't been wearing makeup. So I don't need too intensive a cleanser. But this is easily one of the gentlest and nicest micellar waters that I have ever tried. And I even put several to the test on an episode of Supershoppers.

It's not your traditional micellar water, in the fact that it definitely has more of a milky consistency to it. Which is probably what gave it its name. It almost feels more like a traditional serum, which is probably why I love the feel of it on my skin as much as I do. It feels so lovely and soothing, definitely much more so than a normal micellar water.

Day Serum

Drunk Elephant C-Firma Day Serum

If you're looking for bright, glowing skin or to start using vitamin C in your skincare routine, this is a great place to start. I did a full blog post on vitamin C skincare. But what you need know is that it can help fade hyperpigmentation, increase collagen in the skin and protect against sun damage.

C-Firma can be a little sticky, which might be an issue for oilier skin types. But it's a small price to pay for the benefits that this serum gives you. As you'll see below, I don't always remember to wear a serum ordinarily. But I now view this as my vitamin C product, which is what reminds me to keep using it. That and the fact that the potency of vitamin C can lessen over time. So you really want to commit to using it as often as you can to get the most out of it.

Eye Cream

Drunk Elephant C-Tango Multivitamin Eye Cream

Carrying on the vitamin C theme, we have one of Drunk Elephant's eye cream offerings. They actually do two, with the Shaba Complex Eye Serum being their other option. But back to C-Tango.

I was a little worried that this might irritate my eye area, as other less active eye creams have done this time and time again to me. But so far, so good. Over the two months that I've been putting this to the test I haven't experienced any irritation or stinging/watery eyes. It doesn't feel heavy on the under eye area, nor does it pill either. And my eyes have certainly looked much brighter than normal.

Moisturise

Drunk Elephant LaLa Retro Whipped Cream Ceramides

If you've been reading Ellis Tuesday for a while now, you will know how much I adore this moisturiser. And the original wasn't packed with ceramides (an ingredient that helps the skin to retain water and protect the skin barrier) like the latest formulation is.

This cream is thick but sinks in quickly and is the one moisturiser that I happily use all year round. It really comes into its own in the colder Winter months for me. As that is often when my skin is at its most problematic. I often get flakes of skin around my T-zone and forehead. And this soothes and repairs those areas so well. This would have to be a close second, when it comes to my favourite Drunk Elephant product of all time.

Drunk Elephant B-Hydra Intensive Hydration Serum

Now I've got to admit, I often forget to apply a serum as part of my skincare routine. But I now simply dispense one pump of this literally on the top of my Lala Retro tub, once I've dispensed what I need of that. I'll speak a bit more about Drunk Elephant's "smoothies" in a second. But that's exactly what I do with this product.

It definitely adds a boost of hydration to my moisturiser and makes it feel even better on the skin in the warmer months. I'm still not convinced about applying it separately. But mixed in with Lala Retro, it's a dream. And it kind of forces me to actually remember to use a serum in my routine, without having the faff of applying it on its own. Talk about quick and easy to now use.

Face Oil

Drunk Elephant Virgin Marula Luxury Facial Oil

Now I've got to admit, I never thought that a facial oil would work for me. But after having a facial at Kohler Waters Spa St Andrews and being as impressed as I was with the results. I was definitely happy to try Drunk Elephant's take on it. The beauty therapist at the spa that day had mentioned how much of a difference it would make on dehydrated skin. And I've now got to agree with her. If you have dry or dehydrated skin, I would seriously recommend giving this product a try.

What I love about Drunk Elephant is that they often recommend mixing a few of the products together, instead of applying them on top of one another. And that's exactly what you can do with the Facial Oil. To learn more about their "smoothies", check out this page here.

Night Treatments

Drunk Elephant A-Passioni Retinol Cream

I've been a bit hesitant to start using retinols, even though the benefits are as great as they are. And this certainly isn't an entry level or beginner's retinol product in the slightest. If you're already accustomed to using retinol or have built up some serious tolerance, this will be a great option for you.

But because of how strong this is, I'll definitely be keeping this for when my skin is a bit more used to retinol exposure. But I wanted to make sure to mention it in today's skincare routine as it is certainly one of DE's most potent products.

Drunk Elephant T.L.C. Framboos Glycolic Night Serum

If I could only recommend one Drunk Elephant to you, it would have to be the T.L.C. Framboos Night Serum! This product has easily made the biggest difference to my skin. Uneven skin texture, dry patches or dehydration stand no chance against this.

I really like the gel formulation of this and again, I make full use of the "smoothie" idea by now mixing it with the next product a few nights a week. They're that great a pair that you actually get a little 3ml sample of Framboos when you purchase F-Balm.

Drunk Elephant F-Balm Electrolyte Waterfacial Hydrating Mask

And finally we have the release that I just had to buy into at the start of the year and that is F-Balm. If you like to wake up with plump, hydrated skin, this is the product for you!

I don't need quite as many pumps of this as Drunk Elephant recommend. But it's just such a nice treat for the skin.

So there you have it; a complete AM to PM Drunk Elephant skincare routine. I'm so glad that I discovered DE all those years ago in Sephora. And I am beyond happy that I can get it so easily in the UK now.

There's only one Drunk Elephant product that I still really want to put to the test. And that is the T.L.C. Sukari Babyfacial. However, due to the levels of acidity in it, it has not been approved for sale in the UK. But I will definitely be picking one up when I'm next in the US.

I also wanted to give the packaging of the entire range a shout out. You know how much I adore the Lala Retro dispenser. But all of the nifty pump dispensers are certainly much appreciated. And it's now clear that Drunk Elephant is one of those brands that I will always keep an eye on for new launches and gift set releases.
