how to style mom jeans for a night out

If you saw my updated 30 before 30 list at the start of the month. You will know that one of my goals is to find a pair of denims that actually fit me. Which if you've ever been jeans shopping, you will know is no mean feat. So today I'm doing just that and sharing the top denim styles for 2020.

Since I donated basically all of my ill fitting jeans at the start of the year, I only have one pair of faded black skinny jeans left in my wardrobe. Which is why I am particularly interested in adding two new styles; a pair of light wash Mom jeans and a black pair of high waisted jeans, in an almost capsule wardrobe way. With those two different fits, plus my weathered black skinnies. I should be covered when it comes to plenty of different outfits.

So I thought that I would share why I'll be adding both styles into my wardrobe this year. Along with a couple ideas of how to style them;

Mom jeans

For me, Mom jeans just look effortlessly chic, particularly when they're in a light wash. I feel like a lot of my outfits can look quite basic, whereas these will add a serious cool factor. I also love the way in which Very have styled these particular models!

Style with: a plain white tee (or any t-shirt to be honest) - a high neck or roll neck knit - a statement top

High waisted jeans

As someone whose waist does nip in, I feel like I need a slightly dressier pair of denims that also feel comfortable to wear for long periods of time (I will never be on board with the low rise jean trend after hating the one pair that I owned as a teen!) They instantly dress up a simple t-shirt or look great with a pyjama-style shirt (of which I probably own far too many).

Style with: a shirt, knit, jumper or t-shirt french tucked in (thank you Tan France for this tip!) - a bodysuit - a bralette (if you're braver than I am)

And those are just some of the top denim styles for 2020.

Do you struggle to find jeans that fit you too? Or do you have a pair that are your absolute favourite? And are either of my two picks currently in your wardrobe?
