magic cream light comparison

If you've been reading Ellis Tuesday for a while, you will know just how big a fan I am of all things Charlotte Tilbury. From meeting CT herself, to putting a lot of her makeup and skincare to the test over the years, it is one brand that totally lives up to the hype for me. So today I am talking skincare and sharing my Charlotte Tilbury Magic Cream vs Magic Cream Light comparison.

As always, when I'm discussing and/or reviewing skincare, my skin is dehydrated/dry. So that is worth bearing in mind.

If you've ever visited a Charlotte Tilbury counter you will know just how crucial Magic Cream is to any of her makeup looks. And it was the one product that Charlotte was using on her celebrity clients before she even launched her own brand.

After having it applied before a Tilbury transformation and going home with a few sample sachets to put it to the test, I completely understood the hype. Once you get past the slightly eye-watering price, this truly is one of those transformative skincare products that you need to try. Even if you just start with a sample or travel size of it.

If you love the original Magic Cream but have been looking for a lighter consistency. Or if you've always wanted to invest in Charlotte's Magic Cream but weren't sure if it would be too rich for you and your skin. I'm sharing the pros and cons of both the original Magic Cream and the new Magic Cream Light in today's blog post.

So let's compare the two;

Charlotte Tilbury Magic Cream (£25-75)

Charlotte's original Magic Cream is definitely the most luxe skincare product in my collection. And everything from the gorgeous packaging to the beautiful scent and rich consistency, confirms that.

I have been using it on and off for years. And it is one of my go-to moisturisers in the colder months. If, like me, you suffer from particularly dry or dehydrated skin, you won't believe how much of a difference this makes.

It is also such a great base for applying makeup on top of. When I apply Magic Cream first, my foundation and concealer goes on looking flawless. A little goes a long way with this cream too. So much so that this is actually my first full size tub, after going through several travel sizes in the past.

If you are adverse to dipping your fingers into a tub of product like this one, I would seriously recommend using a little plastic scoop to spoon it out. Some other skincare products in your collection will surely have come with one of these. Or you can get multi packs of them on Amazon or eBay.

Charlotte Tilbury Magic Cream Light (£25-75)

Sometimes the original Magic Cream can feel a bit heavy for the warmer months. Which is why I've been putting this to the test since it launched this summer. And CT has done it again with this brilliant lighter option.

If you have oilier skin, I would definitely recommend Magic Cream Light over the original. But it is still hydrating enough for me and my dehydrated skin.

I would say, though, that this isn't as light as you might expect. In a good way though. It's not too watery or liquid. And the only feeling that I can compare it to, once it's applied to the skin, is like silk. My skin just feels so soft and plump.

Much like the original Magic Cream, this leaves my skin with such a glow to it. So much so that I only ever really need a spot of concealer most days. It also has SPF 20 built in, compared to the original's SPF 15. But as a ridiculously pale redhead, I would always recommend applying SPF separately as well.

I also prefer the fact that Magic Cream Light is housed in a bottle with a pump dispenser. As opposed to having to dip your fingers or a spatula in, like you do with the original. It feels a whole lot more hygienic and that's why I've been reaching for Magic Cream Light as much as I have this summer.

Charlotte Tilbury Magic Cream vs Magic Cream Light

So that was my Charlotte Tilbury Magic Cream vs Magic Cream Light comparison. Both have their own merits. And I've definitely been loving the lighter consistency over the past few months. But I can't wait to get back to applying the original as Autumn/Winter progresses.

You'll find both on Charlotte's website. As well as the likes of Space NK, Cult Beauty, Feelunique, Selfridges and even ASOS.

Have you tried anything from Charlotte Tilbury's skincare range? If so, what did you think? And would the original or the light work better for you?
