In my last outfit post I stated that I wasn't quite ready to go sans tights, just yet anyway. But today my bare legs are making their first appearance of 2016. All because of this stunning floral print wrap front midi dress* from New Look. Also, in that last outfit post, you will have seen me say that I enjoyed showing how I style a specific piece to take it from day to night by only making a couple of adjustments. So that's exactly what's happening in today's post too. I'm showing you how to take a midi dress from day to night.
Now that it's May I feel like it's okay to finally start uttering the word Summer instead of Spring. So that's what inspired today's outfit and the Summer Days vs. Summer Nights nature of it. That and the fact that I watched Grease last night.
Picking the right midi dress
Midi dresses are an absolute must-have when it comes to my Summer wardrobe. It's a way of flashing your pins without having to feel too self conscious about how they look or how much of them is exposed. I'm definitely not one of those girls that can confidently rock a pair of denim shorts in the middle of Summer. Particularly when I'm in Glasgow and not some tropical paradise. But a midi dress shows the perfect amount of leg for me without blinding people with my pasty pins. Most of the midi dresses that I own are the exact same style and made of the same material; jersey.
So I definitely took a step outwith my comfort zone when I added this to my basket. The print was what won me over immediately. And I really do love the D-ring style that allows the beautiful material to be cinched in at the waist. And as you saw in my It's A Wrap post. I'm a big fan of a wrap-over top, especially as someone with a bit of a bust. I also loved the fact that the sleeves were almost kimono-like. This means if you're the kind of person who doesn't like to show off their upper arms, this dress really does cover a multitude of sins.
So here's my Summer day look;
On a warm Summer's day, either here or abroad. I like to have my hair up off my neck. So that's the first thing I did for my daytime look. Normally I just pop in an Invisibobble. But I decided to take my Summer accessorising to the next level. as you might be able to see a slight hint of in this particular photo.
And when it comes to daytime dressing, nothing beats a good pair of sandals.
At a recent blog event I was very kindly gifted this stunning pair of sandals. Hotter are a brand that I've always traditionally associated with more of an older clientele. But I was pleasantly, pleasantly surprised when I stopped by my local store to be met with so many shoes that wouldn't look out of place in shops like Topshop, and Zara. As soon as I saw this particular pair, the Tourist sandals* in black, I knew that I had found my dream pair.
I won't bore you with too many details but I've never really bought a pair of shoes with comfort in mind. I certainly won't walk past Hotter anymore after trying these. And I already have my eye on a new pair of super lightweight trainers from them that fit like a dream. After trying them on at the event.
And as I mentioned briefly above, I added a fun twist to my daytime outfit by popping in two pretty little lilac and pink pom pom hair bands*. Why limit a trend like the pom pom one to keyrings and handbags, when you can add a few to your hair.
Now for my Summer nights look;
I shook my hair loose and gave it a quick curl to make the outfit look a bit more dressy. I then switched out my super soft sandals for a pair of heels. As someone who's incredibly pale. I always find it difficult to find a pair of nude heels that actually match my skin tone. Well New Look have hit it out of the park with this pair of block heels*. They're also exceptionally easy to walk in, which can't be said for all heels, especially when you're as clumsy as I am.
And a cross body bag is perfect for taking your essentials with you on a night out;
As soon as I spotted this absolutely gorgeous bag on New Look's website I knew that it had to be mine. Is anyone else a little bit obsessed with iridescent/mermaid style stuff at the moment? I might have also bought a make-up bag and a sunglasses case in this same material from Accessorize and H&M respectively. So expect to see them make an appearance on here and on social media at least a couple of times this Summer. The chain on this iridescent bag* is also brilliant. As you can wear the chain long, like I have, or double it up to have it as more of a handbag. Or you can let the chain stay inside it to hold it like a clutch. I'm all for versatility when it comes to cross body bags in particular.
So there you have it, my Summer day to night look.
New Look really do have such a great selection, as they always do. But it's especially true if you're looking for something to wear to a Summer wedding, a day at the races, prom or even a Summer BBQ.
And last but not least, how pretty is the blossom that I managed to capture? I just love this time of year.
