Many of us will have just received our Spotify Wrapped. Which got me thinking about the music that I like to listen to and where. For example, what I listen to right before I go to sleep is very different from what I listen to while I'm working or out on a brisk walk. Or my drive style playlist and what I listen to in the car. Kia have also recently published some data, which reveals that real-world driving in electric cars can be influenced by the music playing in the cabin. And they found out that listening to classical music could make drivers up to four times more efficient.
While I’m definitely not a classical music fan. There are certain songs and playlists that I like to listen to while in the car. I don’t know about you. But the thought of listening to the radio just isn’t appealing to me in the slightest. So, with that in mind, Kia has asked me to share the kind of music that influences me and my family while we’re in the car.
And here is my drive style playlist;
Most of my journeys in the car these days are to get me from point A to point B. And in that time I like to listen to some of my favourite artists and songs.
I definitely like listening to songs that keep me upbeat and alert. And if they are ones that I can easily sing along to, that's an added bonus. From Lizzo and Harry Styles' catchy tunes, to quite a few tracks from Taylor Swift's Midnights, to two of my favourite driving related songs, Rihanna's 'Shut Up And Drive' and 'Getaway Car' by Taylor, they make even the most mundane journey into one that I enjoy. Then if I have any longer road-trip style journeys, I know that these songs will keep me more than entertained the whole way there and back.
It was really interesting to see the songs that Kia had used to carry out their test. From The Weeknd's 'Blinding Lights', which actually depleted battery power the quickest. To a ballad like Adele's 'Hello', which fell somewhere in the middle. And then Beethoven’s ‘Symphony No. 9', which created a calm and focused environment. Even though I don't have any classical songs on my drive style playlist, I think that I've got a good mix of more energetic and slightly slower tempo songs.
So, particularly in the run up to the festive period, when the roads are busier, car parks are jam packed and it's just more of a stressful time all round. Creating my own little bubble, knowing that those other things are out of my control, is key. As is listening to songs that keep me engaged yet focused.
