house of gods treat me like i'm famous

Last week I turned 30 and even though years ago I had grand plans of spending it somewhere warm and sunny, obviously that wasn't all that feasible at the moment. I wasn't entirely sure how to make it a memorable birthday, especially as I'm not one for parties or going out out. But all it took was a booking at House Of Gods Edinburgh to make it the most memorable birthday ever.

So here's my 'Treat Me Like I'm Famous' birthday stay at House of Gods;

Located in Edinburgh's Cowgate, I was beyond excited to be staying in one of their Cabin rooms. I can honestly say that I have never experienced anything quite like my stay at this opulent and glamorous hotel and cocktail bar before.

Every little detail and piece of service was truly above and beyond anything that I could have imagined.

What really drew me to House of Gods in the first place was their 'Treat Me Like I'm Famous' package, which includes the following for an additional £99;

  • A rose petal, balloon-filled room and exclusive handmade chocolates
  • A bottle of House of Gods x San Samone DOCG Prosecco Superiore
  • Millionaire’s in-room cocktail service where a ‘star-tender’ visits your room to prepare House of Gods’ most exclusive cocktail
  • A complimentary £50 bar tab
  • Bedtime milk & cookies brought to your room by their butler
  • A luxury upgrade breakfast hamper with Mimosa chasers, again brought by butler
  • And finally, late check out

And if you can't feel like a superstar on a big birthday like your 30th, then when can you?

It's honestly the first time ever that I've not wanted to leave a hotel, even in a city as exciting and full of places to explore as Edinburgh. We even had a massive lunch before check-in at 3pm, meaning that there was no reason at all for us to go anywhere else. And once we had settled in, you couldn't have dragged us away from the room or our seats at the bar.

But let me start with a bit of a room tour.

The first thing that absolutely blew my mind was the heated floor in the bathroom. Honestly, I was in pure heaven. I even found myself just standing there to feel the toasty warmth under my feet. It was a pretty chilly day outside, given that it was February in Scotland. So this was a more than welcome respite for me and my feet. It has also pretty much ruined all other bathrooms, including my own at home, for me forever.

Unlike a traditional hotel with a phone connecting you to the front desk, you communicate with the staff via Whatsapp which was so quick and easy to do. And if you're not a fan of or get anxious speaking over the phone, you will love this idea.

You could order cocktails from the bar directly to the room. Plus you could ask for anything that you would normally call the front desk for, like extra pillows, etc. And speaking of cocktails, there were so many incredible ones to choose from. So much so, that I'll definitely need to plan a return visit to do just that.

You don't need to stay at House of Gods Edinburgh to visit their fabulous cocktail bar.

Honestly, it felt like I was in a different era and the decor was truly out of this world.

I may have been swayed by the glass that the House of Gods No. 5 cocktail came in as it was incredibly ginger-y, as the bartender did point out. But I mean, just look at that glass!

The Bohemian Gold cockatil, on the other hand, was one of my favourites.

But my absolute favourite was the Millionaire's cocktail that was made right outside our room door. It was super creamy yet fruity and citrus-y at the same time. Honestly, I could have drank many, many of them over the course of the evening.

It was tricky to photograph it but the room had one of those incredibly luxe TVs that are actually hidden behind/part of a mirror. But the magic of it all definitely blew my mind. And again, it was another design tip that I took away with me for my dream home one day.

With access to Netflix and Amazon Prime, as well as the regular Freeview channels, a movie night was definitely on the cards. And what arrived just after 9pm worked perfectly for that.

house of gods milk and cookies

As I follow House of Gods on Instagram I've seen a few different iterations of the milk and cookies over the past year or so. Sometimes you get sweets with it, which sadly we didn't on this occasion. But the massive gooey chocolate cookie more than made up for that. And how cute are the little bottles of milk and glasses.

A press of a button in the morning brought breakfast in the form of a huge hamper stuffed full of delicious options. There were bagels, cinnamon roll-style muffins, granola and yoghurt pots, boiling hot coffee and hot water to make tea, milk, orange juice. And to top it off, mimosas aka. Buck's Fizz.

I really had such a special birthday at House of Gods Edinburgh, one that I won't forget in a hurry. And given that Edinburgh is only 45 minutes away from Glasgow by train, it felt like a special getaway even though I wasn't far from home at all.

House of Gods will be opening two new hotels in 2022. One in Glasgow (which I can't wait to visit) and one in Manchester.

Have you ever visited Edinburgh? What do you think of the 'Treat Me Like I'm Famous' package? And would you book a stay at House of Gods?
