self isolation activities

I bet none of us thought that we would even be talking about self isolation, nonetheless actually doing it. But whether you're self isolating because of underlying health issues, who you live with. Or to reduce the spread of the virus. There's no denying that it can get boring pretty quickly if you have nothing to do. So I thought that I would share some of my self isolation tips today.

If you can think of anything else to add to this list, be sure to leave a comment below. So that we can all get a little bit more inspiration.

But until then, here are ten activities to hopefully keep you occupied during self isolation and lockdown;

Have a Netflix party

If this whole spending more time at home thing has had any positive benefits, it's learning that there is such a thing as a Netflix party. Basically, you can watch TV shows or movies in an almost group chat setting where you can pause to discuss or interact with each other without having to pick up the phone.

Support your favourite people & places online

Whether it's your favourite blogger or YouTuber, etsy shop owner or small business, use your time to support them. If you've been meaning to catch up with blog posts or YouTube videos or even just do something as simple as sharing or liking something. You have no idea how much they will appreciate this. And if you're thinking of doing a spot of online shopping, shop small. So many small businesses and even bigger businesses will truly feel the hit of us not being able to go about our days as usual.

Make a dent in your To Be Read list

If you're anything like me, you will have more books on your physical and digital bookshelves than you could ever normally read. I keep track of mine over on Goodreads. Take this time to make a serious dent in your TBR list. And you don't even need to leave the house if you have a way of reading e-books on your electronic devices or getting books delivered to you directly.

Do a digital or physical declutter

Use self isolation as the perfect excuse to finally declutter. Whether it's your wardrobe, receipts or even your computer folders, this can give you a real sense of accomplishment. Make a bag to donate to charity, when you next can. As there will be many in an even worse position once the virus peters out.

Wash your makeup brushes

Okay, so this has been at the top of my to do list for ages now. But there's always something more interesting to be doing. That is until you've spent several days in self isolation and even boring tasks give you something different to do. Doing something physical at stages throughout the day definitely gives me more motivation. Which leads me on nicely to my next tip.

Work out at home

There are plenty of at home workouts that you can be doing. And lots of great videos on YouTube and IGTV. And if you don't have a lot of indoor space, think about finding somewhere outside that will give you more room.

how to stay sane working from home

Get some fresh air

If you have a back garden, park or even a stretch of road outside your home, make sure to get out and get some fresh air to stop you from going totally stir crazy. As long as you keep your distance from any fellow walkers or avoid places that might be busier, breathe in and get some fresh air in your lungs.

Practice some proper self care

If you never have enough time to do a face mask or full day of at home pampering, now is the time.

Plan your next holiday

Okay, so I don't mean get ready to book something but rather, have a think about where you'd like to go once this has all blown over. I've got my fingers crossed that I will be okay to visit the US later in the year as planned but I did have to cancel my upcoming trip to Rome. Whether it's somewhere closer to home. Or somewhere warm and exotic that you have your heart set on, there's no harm keeping it at the back of your mind whilst we're all stuck at home.

self isolation things to do

Download or start up The Sims

I was absolutely obsessed with The Sims growing up. But as an adult I've definitely avoided playing because I always feel like I'm not being productive enough. However, being in self isolation is the perfect excuse to start playing again. Just because you're not going shopping, to University or nightclubs doesn't mean that your Sims can't!

So those are my self isolation tips. Hopefully that has given you some inspiration to stay somewhat more sane with all those hours spent at home.

Have you been self isolating or working from home? Is anyone else struggling to get used to being in the one place all day? And do you have any other self isolation tips? Or recommendations for things to do?
