If you follow me on Instagram and watch my Stories, you will know that I attended the launch of the new La Rue Verte CBD massage and facial treatments at Kimpton Blythswood Square in Glasgow City Centre a few weeks ago.
And I was very kindly invited along to experience one of the treatments for myself a week or so after that. As someone who never really switches off, I opted for the CBD massage. And I am so glad that I did. As it was honestly one of the best massages that I have ever had.
It was my first time visiting the Spa at Blythswood Square but it certainly won't be my last. I was blown away by how beautiful the spa was. And I only saw the treatment and relaxation rooms and the spa cafe. Whereas, The Thermal Experience, looks even more unreal. And it would definitely be worth booking a spa day just so that you can gain access to it. You can also add access to it to your spa treatment for an additional £25. If you really want to go all out when it comes to your trip to the Spa.
Before your treatment
When you arrive you are given a sheet with a whole host of different pressure points mapped out, giving you the opportunity to target your treatment to particular areas or issues. Whether this is physical pain or psychological ailments like insomnia. This guarantees that each treatment is completely bespoke to each indvidual.
As someone who suffers from joint hypermobility and IBS, I was keen to see what sort of effect the treatment would have on the sore joints in my hands and wrists and my often troublesome lower back.
The CBD massage itself
You start the treatment by being offered a drop of La Rue Verte's 1000mg CBD tincture, which you take under the tongue. Then the treatment begins with a relaxing foot scrub. I definitely welcomed this, having spent the few hours prior to my appointment trekking about the City Centre.
The La Rue Verte CBD massage is a lymphatic drainage full body massage, with normal pressure being applied to your arms, legs, neck and back. The therapist will also be focusing on the specific pressure points that align with the issues that you circled on your form earlier. This means that extra time and attention is given to these areas of your body. I can't tell you how good my hands and wrists felt after being attended to.
I absolutely loved the massage and truly let all of my worries and stresses slip away as I lay there and properly relaxed.
The entire treatment takes 55 minutes and is priced at £94. The CBD facial also takes 55 minutes and is priced at £89. You are then free to continue the experience in the dedicated relaxation room, where water, tea and fresh fruit is available. I definitely regretted not bringing a magazine or book with me that day to truly unwind.
CBD beauty
Having never tried any products containing CBD, I was really curious to see how they would work. La Rue Verte's hemp-based topical CBD lotions and oils are non-psychoactive and more than 99% CBD pure. Their products are also suitable for all skin types. Plus, your therapist can tailor them to your specific skin type or needs.
At the launch event, we learned more about the endocannabinoid system, which is comprised of a network of receptors responsible for regulating a number of vital bodily functions. These include sleep, appetite, hunger, pain response, coordination and mood. And CBD products offer a three-pronged skincare approach. They are anti-ageing, anti-oxidant and anti-inflammatory.
I'd definitely look at adding more products with CBD benefits in them into my beauty routine going forward. And I'm already planning when I can next go back to experience the La Rue Verte CBD massage again.
