exploring covent garden london

If you saw my 24 Hours In London Itinerary you will know that this Summer, for the very first time, I visited London. And almost as soon as I stepped out of the tube station, I was looking forward to returning.

Admittedly, I didn't even scratch the surface on my first trip. Me and my Mum definitely kicked ourselves for not booking one of those Hop On Hop Off Bus Tours to see more of the city. And we have a long list of tourist spots to check off on our next trip.

But I thought that I would share why the Covent Garden area of London, in particular, immediately won over my heart.

The shop fronts and architecture

I honestly don't think I've ever seen a more beautiful area than Covent Garden. Every shop front is completely unique and it feels like an old fashioned town within the hustle and bustle of the big city.

I could have spent hours (and we did) just wandering around looking at everything and doing a spot of window shopping. I now definitely need to visit at Christmas time to see what kind of show they put on with their Christmas decorations and shop fronts.

The market building itself

Not only is the market building itself something to behold but it houses the one place that I was desperate to visit on my overnight stay; Shake Shack. It was just as good as it was in the US and I think I may need to start a petition to bring it up here to Scotland! What do we think fellow Scots?

And there is no better way to walk off good food, shake in hand of course, than by sauntering around a place like this. We ended up earmarking other places to try for food next time.

If I hadn't just over indulged at Shake Shack, I would have 100% been joining the queue at Venchi Chocolate and Gelato. The cones that people were walking out of there with were unreal and I completely understood why it was so packed at that time in the afternoon.

Floral Street

The hotel that we stayed at on this trip, the hub by Premier Inn London Covent Garden (which I would wholeheartedly recommend for anyone on a budget looking to be in the heart of the action) was just steps away from this pretty little street. There were so many great shops to dip in and out of, such as Free People, Diptyque and The Shop At Bluebird.

It's such a gorgeous little cobbled street, which then led you on toward even more shops. Which, as a fan of all things shopping (even if I did just window shop this time) was quite literally right up my street.

So many selfie spots

One thing that we are severely lacking in Glasgow, in addition to Shake Shack, is selfie spots. London has got it going on when it comes to floral walls and displays on almost every street and great spots to get a cute Insta shot.

I also love that they change up what adorns this wooden swing, just outside Covent Garden Market, depending on the season. Now that is the kind of attention to detail and getting a good photo for the 'gram that I fully condone.

Have you ever visited Covent Garden? If so, what did you think of it? And if not, would you like to one day?
