It's been a few months since I last shared what I've been watching. And this month I'm doing things a little bit differently. Summer is undoubtedly my favourite time of year to go the cinema. With big Summer blockbusters, exciting releases and plenty of rainy days where you don't actually want to leave the house, I thought that I'd share more of what I actually get up to when I go out to see something new. As you will see below in today's blog post.
So these are some of the best movies and TV shows to watch;
Chernobyl
I was actually on holiday when Chernobyl started. Which is also why there wasn't a What I've Been Watching post last month. But my Dad would not stop going on about how incredible this show is as soon as I returned home.
If you've seen any of the advertisements for it you will no doubt know that it has become the highest rated TV show on IMDb. Beating the likes of Game Of Thrones and Breaking Bad. It is a tough watch at times as some absolutely unbelievable things happen as a result of the nuclear power plant disaster. You're obviously aware that this happened in real life. But the true scope and horror of what actually unfolded is absolutely insane! The men who literally gave their lives to save millions is something you would never have expected. Particularly if you go into it without knowing much about Chernobyl in general. It's also incredibly well made. And it's the kind of show that stays with you long after you've watched it.

The Truth About The Harry Quebert Affair
Now I'm not going to lie, I was completely drawn in by Patrick 'McDreamy' Dempsey starring in this. But it quickly became a show that I just had to watch more of. Patrick's character, Harry Quebert, is a famous writer who becomes implicated in the disappearance and death of a teenage girl almost twenty years prior. And it's certainly binge-worthy!
It's the kind of show that immediately draws you in. And what you think is a pretty simple story soon turns into something much darker and messed up than you could have ever imagined. The actress who plays Nola, the teenage girl, is really believable. And I ended up with a bit of a crush on the show's focus, Marcus. You'll find the whole boxset of ten episodes on Sky Boxsets or NOW TV. And it's definitely worth a watch.

Godzilla: King Of Monsters
This month I was invited along to Glasgow Fort for dinner and a movie. And quite a few things surprised me. First of all, who knew that you could get movie tickets for £4.99 in 2019?! Not me, that's for sure! Every ticket for every film is £4.99 when you buy online. Or £5.49 at the ticket desk. At Vue Cinemas. This was very exciting news for a movie fan like myself. Who else is put off by paying £12 or £13 for one ticket?
The second surprising thing was that I really enjoyed this movie! Having only seen clips of the 2014 Godzilla movie. I really had no idea what to expect. But I have to say, I was pleasantly surprised. I'm a big fan of Vera Farmiga's and the projects that she chooses to work on. So right away I was fully invested in Godzilla: King Of Monsters. Kyle Chandler was a great male lead (I'm always a fan of his). And Millie Bobby Brown plays the role of their daughter well. I also liked the supporting cast. And every few minutes I would be like, "there's Hen from 9-1-1 (review here) or Richard from Silicon Valley or hey, there's Charles Dance!" If you're looking for a big blockbuster movie to go and enjoy at the cinema. You could do a lot worse than Godzilla: King Of Monsters.

Our dinner at Bread Meats Bread Glasgow Fort was unreal! I had the juiciest buttermilk chicken burger that I have ever had! Plus, there were so many options for vegans (I mean how incredible does Sandra's vegan Caribbean burger look?!) It's also the first time in a long time that I've left chips behind. The portion was so big that we easily could have shared a bowl. But the food coma was well and truly worth it.

Bird Box
For some reason, it took me until this month to finally sit down and watch the movie that everyone was talking about over the Christmas holidays last year. I was looking through my Netflix list and decided to give it a try. And I'm definitely glad that I did. I had a vague idea what it was about as a result of hearing about the 'Bird Box challenge'. But I didn't expect to like it as much as I did.
The concept is really interesting. And I actually thought that it made it even more tense and scarier not seeing what the monsters looked like. I was on the edge of my seat the whole way through even if hearing 'boy' and 'girl' shouted many, many times throughout the movie did get a bit annoying. There's a star studded cast and Sandra Bullock puts in one hell of a performance!

Creed II
EXCITING NEWS: Creed II, despite only just being released on DVD here in the UK last month, has just been added to Netflix!
Now I actually watched Creed II on the flight home to Glasgow last month. But as it is now on Netflix, I watched it again with my family last night. And I obviously had to share my thoughts on it with you. One thing I would say, however, is that I wished I'd rewatched the first Creed movie beforehand. As it's been years since I'd last seen it. And I was a bit like 'who? why? when?' when certain things were happening or said in Creed II. So that's just a little recommendation before you start watching this sequel.
Back to Creed II itself. I'd heard a lot of critics and reviews compare it to Rocky II. And there are obviously a lot of similarities given that Creed is fighting Ivan Drago's son. If you've not already seen the Rocky series, definitely give that a watch too!) But it had enough differences to make Creed II its own film. Michael B Jordan is great as ever. And I dare you not to be fully invested in the final fight scene. I ended up punching the air/watching it behind tense fingers on a flight home 3am UK time, it was that good!
