Is it just me or is this year completely flying by? After a January that felt about three months long, February and March have gone by so quickly. So today I thought that I would share what to watch on Netflix and TV right now.
I always enjoy sharing what I've been watching. And I hope that you enjoy reading them too.
So here's what to watch on Netflix and TV right now;
Instant Hotel
Now if you're familiar with the daytime TV show Four In A Bed where four B&B's in the UK compete to see who has the best establishment. Instant Hotel has a very similar concept. But it certainly takes things to a whole new level! And it would be my top pick when it comes to what to watch on Netflix and TV right now.
Based around the short term rental/Airbnb market, the concept is similar in the fact that each couple travels to each others place to judge it. And score it when it comes to certain criteria. Normally there's a bit of drama on the very last day of Four In Bed when all the scores and comments are revealed. But on Instant Hotel there is game playing, drama and bitchy comments aplenty right from the offset. The cast of characters on it are also fantastic. And the fact that the season is split into two rounds, each with five couples, means that you get a whole lot of personality in the space of a few episodes.
Just when you think that it can't get any cattier or more ruthless than the first batch of contestants. In come the second group of five couples! I honestly haven't laughed or been as shocked as I have been by a reality TV show like this in years! There's currently one season of Instant Hotel on Netflix right now. And I would seriously urge you to give it a watch ASAP!

Isn't It Romantic
I'd seen quite a bit of buzz surrounding this movie when it was being made. Mainly because of Rebel Wilson and Liam Hemsworth's involvement in it. So I was pleasantly surprised to see it appear on Netflix quite as quickly as it did. Thanks to Netflix acquiring it's UK rights.
As someone who does enjoy a good rom com, I really enjoyed Isn't It Romantic! They lean into the stereotypes and tropes of some of the biggest rom coms in history to good effect. And Rebel Wilson adds the laughs, as always. It's also set in my favourite city in the world. Which immediately gave it bonus points for me.
I found myself randomly bursting into song after watching this, which is exactly what they were going for. And the ending was also really adorable too. Especially as I am one of those people who never realises that people were actually flirting with them. Or letting me know that they'd like to be more than friends, until about 5 years later. And I wonder why I'm still single? Ha. The only thing that didn't quite work for me was that, for some reason; I found Liam Hemsworth more cringe inducing than swoon worthy. But that may just be a personal thing. Although, I couldn't really understand why I felt that way, especially when I was quite into him when he was in The Hunger Games series of films.

The Disappearance Of Madeleine McCann
Probably like most people, I spent eight hours of the month of March watching Netflix's latest true crime documentary. But unlike others (see my thoughts on a few other true crime documentaries in previous What I've Been Watching posts). I was very familiar with this case. Or at least I thought that I was.
To be completely honest, as an avid viewer of true crime docs, particularly on Netflix. I found this to be really long winded and drawn out. For me, it could have been much more succinct. And at least two hours shorter. It was worth the watch. But it felt like a real slog to get through it.
However, my thoughts on exactly what happened did change several times throughout the course of watching this documentary. And I still don't know quite what to believe. There being the smell of death in the holiday villa, hire car and all over Kate McCann's clothes. And just the way in which her parents acted in general had me sure that they had a hand in her death, most probably accidentally. But then the idea that she was snatched by a couple who wanted a child of their own also seemed very plausible. Maybe that's why they've never seen her appear on the dark web. Or when they've recovered photographs of child abuse on hard drives etc. Whether you believe them or not, it is completely baffling that the parents were never charged with child endangerment or neglect of some kind.

Life
I'm not really a fan of the Alien franchise of films or movies set in space more generally. But it was my Dad's turn to pick a movie to watch one night and he spotted Life on Netflix. I'd heard reasonably good things about it. And I wasn't going to complain about having to sit and watch Jake Gyllenhaal and Ryan Reynolds on screen for a few hours. Therefore, I was really surprised to not only enjoy this movie. But to have a really uneasy feeling of dread the whole way through. Aka. the sign of a good thriller or horror movie.
Seeing a team search for proof of life on Mars. And it not being some cartoonish version of what an alien might look like, certainly made it a lot more believable and enjoyable for me to watch. The tiny little organism that they initially take on board to study really does do a complete 180 from the cute little waving entity that they call Calvin. To a life sucking being, hell bent on destroying everything and everyone on board. The ending, which I kind of did call as soon as they even thought about leaving the space station, definitely leaves you feeling pretty anxious and scared of what really could happen to an unsuspecting general public. If something was to make it's way to earth.

The Great British Sewing Bee
Me and my Mum are big fans of this show. And we were even more excited than normal for it to return when we found out that one of our favourite funny men; Joe Lycett, would be taking over hosting duties.
The format is similar to The Great British Bake Off in the fact that it has three rounds; a technical round where the contestants are given a pattern to follow. An alteration round where they can let their imagination run wild. And a show stopper round. Basically, just replace flour and eggs with fabric and pattern pieces and you've got The Great British Sewing Bee. It might not sound like the most interesting show on TV. But it really is, particularly if you're a fan of fashion or how clothing is made.
Imagine being so good at sewing and creating garments that you could sustainably make your own? Now that would be the dream! The whole series is now on BBC iplayer, if you fancy giving it a watch.
