No matter your shape or size, we all have our body hang ups. And the notion of getting into a swimming costume or bikini can stress out even the best of us. Over the past couple of years I've grown to love my body, something I never thought I'd be able to say. The wobbly bits, cellulite, stretch marks; they're all part of what makes me me. But even if you feel confident in clothes, swimwear can be a whole different story. So I thought I would share a couple of tips, ones I put in practice on my recent trip to the US. Here's how to feel confident in swimwear
First of all, I must introduce you to Frank the flamingo from Prezzybox.
Is it obvious that I've been watching too many episodes of How To Get Away With Murder recently?
Just because cut out swimwear is all the rage right now doesn't mean you should feel pressured to pack one for your next holiday. My advice; go to a store where you can actually physically try on a range of styles. That way once you know which one you like best. Then you can browse ASOS etc. to your heart's content.
Since one of my biggest body hang ups is the cellulite at the top of my thighs, I now always opt for a skirted swimsuit. Even though it can often be perceived as a little mumsy, I actively search for 1950's/vintage inspired ones as they just look so flattering. You don't need to shell out an arm and a leg for one of these either. I found this particular one at my local Sainsburys this Summer for less than £20!
Whatever your body hang up or issue, there’s an option out there for you.
As someone with a rather ample bust, I know just how important proper support can be. Looking for a swimsuit with shelf support or an underwired top can instantly transform the way you look and feel.
To tan or not to tan
As you can quite clearly see, rocking the pale look is something I do on a daily basis. Can you believe that this is actually me with a bit of a 'glow'?
If treating yourself to a spray tan or grabbing a bottle of the fake stuff in preparation for flashing the flesh in your swimwear, makes you feel a little less like Casper the Friendly Ghost/better about yourself, then just go for it! Here are some of my favourites for paler skin tones as well as great ones in general.
Enjoy yourself
It's not every day that you get the chance to spend a couple of hours or days by the pool, especially if you live somewhere like the UK, so don't waste the opportunity. Forget about how you look and enjoy yourself! Trust me, everyone else will have that little niggling bit of self doubt about how they look too so put it to the back of your mind and make a splash or at least grab yourself a good book, some sun protection and a spot to sit back and relax.
Last but not least, whenever the topic of body confidence arises, there's only one thing that springs to mind. In the inimitable words of Ru Paul herself;
‘If you can’t love yourself how in the hell you gonna love somebody else?’
Can I get an amen?
What tips do you have for feeling confident in swimwear? Do you have any holiday plans in the pipeline? And what do you think of Frank the flamingo?
