Boots 3 for 2 Mix and Match Haul

I've been wanting to try out a range of different products recently but since I'm all about saving money I've been waiting for a couple of the brands to have a 3 for 2 deal going. Normally the three products have to be from the same brand but
as if Boots were reading my mind they started a mix and match 3 for 2 deal last Wednesday, meaning I could finally get my hands on some of the products that I'd had on my wishlist for quite some time now.

Boots 3 for 2

Charles Worthington Volume & Bounce Texturising Spray £6.99 - Soap & Glory Sexy Mother Pucker Gloss Stick in Bashfull £8 - Bourjois Little Round Pot in £6.99 - Revlon ColourBurst™ Matte Balm in Elusive £7.99 - Revlon ColourBurst Lacquer Balm in Demure £7.99 - L'Oreal Glam Shine Balmy Gloss in Sin For A Peach £6.99 - Herbal Essences Bee Strong Leave in Conditioner £4.79

I bought the first six items in the 3 for 2 deal and I'd been looking for the Herbal Essences spray for a couple of months now, to no avail, so I just grabbed that too. I also had a few more things on my Boots shopping list, mainly the Soap & Glory Supercat eyeliner and some Rimmel lip crayons but they didn't have them in my local stores or online so unfortunately I couldn't add these to my basket. I'll keep looking whilst the deal is on though.

I can't wait to try out all of these lovely products and I'll definitely be reviewing them throughout March. Is there any that you would like me to review first?

What have you been buying recently when it comes to beauty? And have you picked anything up from Boots whilst the 3 for 2 deal has been on?

La Roche-Posay Effaclar Duo [+]

La Roche-Posay Effaclar Duo +

La Roche-Posay Effaclar Duo [+]* £15.50

I was very kindly given the opportunity to review the La Roche-Posay Effaclar Duo [+] by Escentual and I am so glad that this was the product they sent my way. I had seen a lot of buzz around this product so I was intrigued to find out whether or not it truly lived up to the incredible hype.

I've been using the Effaclar Duo [+] for around two weeks now and I've been completely blown away by the way it has improved my skin. I'm pretty lucky that I only get the odd blemish but I do always seem to get one huge and highly noticeable blemish whenever I have anything important to go to. Why does that always happen?

My main problem when it comes to blemishes is that I can often feel them lurking under the skin, ready to erupt at any given moment. Sometimes they don't even turn into actual spots but instead I can just feel them under the skin which is never too pleasant. This is really no longer a problem for me and I've only been using the Effaclar Duo [+] for just over two weeks.

I've been applying the product morning and night. A little really does go a long way for me. I think the first time I applied it I did so just a little bit too copiously and realised quite quickly that I didn't need that much at all. I apply it all over and then put just a couple of extra dots of product on real problem areas like current blemishes or the little bits of scarring left over from previous blemishes. That is another added bonus of the Effaclar Duo [+] in comparison to it's predecessor. The Duo [+] fights against residual marks and I've noticed a vast improvement when it comes to a little scar that I have at the tip of my nose which is now basically untraceable, even to me. It also clears up any visible redness I have and did this in only a few days. I could say dream skincare product here and I will! I genuinely can't believe how quickly and how effectively this has been working for me.

You can buy the Effaclar Duo [+] from Escentual for £15.50 who also stock the entire La Roche-Posay range if you want to stock up on some of your favourite items. They also stock some French Pharmacy favourites, so if you want to try out Bioderma, Avene or Vichy (to name but a few) and never thought you could easily get a hold of them then head over to

Have you tried the Effaclar Duo [+] and if so, what did you think of it? Is your skin prone to break outs and blemishes? And have you tried any more of the La Roche-Posay range? I'm so tempted to try out many, many more of their products very soon!

What I've been watching in: February

Starring: Jesse Eisenberg, Woody Harrelson, Isla Fisher, Mark Ruffalo
This was one of the movies that I got for my birthday and I watched it when I returned home from my birthday dinner that night. I really enjoyed Now You See Me. The cast was pretty incredible and normally when there is a big ensemble cast of well known names the movie normally ends up pretty terrible (I'm looking at you New Year's Eve) but this was the exact opposite. It's got magic, illusions, drama and some really great twists. If you're looking for something to watch then I definitely recommend this.

Starring: Paul Rudd, Elizabeth Banks, Zooey Deschanel, Emily Mortimer
I'm a rather big fan of Paul Rudd's so I was always going to get around to watching this. Rudd plays the 'Idiot Brother' of Elizabeth Banks, Zooey Deschanel and Emily Mortimer but he's just such a sweet and naive character in this, especially when you compare him to the array of other characters. This again has a pretty large cast of some of my favourite actors and actresses with Adam Scott, Steve Coogan and Kathryn Hahn making an appearance which can only be a good thing. Paul Rudd plays his part in this perfectly and made me fall in love with him all over again. If you get a chance to watch this you really must!

Starring: Mia Wasikowska, Matthew Goode, Nicole Kidman
I actually first watched this on a flight in June of last year but I picked it up on DVD a few weeks ago. Fans of Prison Break and Wentworth Miller might like to know that this was written by the actor turned writer. This was definitely one of my favourite movies from last year and I loved it just as much the second time around. I remember I couldn't get Nancy Sinatra's Summer Wine out of my head for the entirety of my holiday as well hehe. A girl can only dream of singing along to it whilst dancing around with a Matthew Goode type. Was anyone else in love with him in this even though he was playing Uncle Charlie? Or am I the only one? Haha.

Starring: Robert De Niro, Christopher Walken, Meryl Streep, John Cazale
This is a movie I have wanted to sit down and watch for so long but had just never got around to it. I'm a huge fan of Robert De Niro and Meryl Streep in particular plus I knew it had won many awards, so I sat down and watched this one night last week. I cannot recommend this highly enough. If you haven't seen it I really, really urge you to! It definitely feels like three movies in one as we see the characters before, during and after the Vietnam War. I now completely understand why this is such a highly acclaimed movie.

Starring: Nicholas Hoult, Teresa Palmer, John Malkovich
While I watched Stoker on the plane to Florida I watched Warm Bodies on the way home. I've had a little bit of a crush on Nicholas Hoult ever since he played Tony in Skins so it was nice to see him play a lead role in this rom-zom (romantic zombie comedy hehe). Teresa Palmer was great in this and I'm definitely becoming a real fan of hers after seeing her in this and in Wish You Were Here last month. This is kind of your typical romantic movie but with the added twist of a zombie falling in love with a human. Quite a fun little movie to watch.

Starring: John Cusack, Rachel Weisz, Gene Hackman, Dustin Hoffman
I'd wanted to see this movie for many years and always seemed to miss it when it was on TV. I saw it was on Film4 a couple of weeks ago and made sure to record it. I'm really glad I did as I finally got the chance to see it. It's all about the manipulation of a jury who are hearing the trial of a widow of a man killed in a gun massacre who has taken some of the biggest gun companies in the US to court. I found it really interesting and it's one of those movies where you really have to be paying attention to make sure you really understand what's going on hehe.

What have you been watching this month? Do you have any recommendations?

Have you seen any of these? If so, what did you think of them?

Victoria's Secret Fragrance Mists

Victoria's Secret Fragrance Mists

Victoria's Secret Fragrance Mists in Secret Crush and Berry Kiss $12

When I was in the US last summer one of the stores I knew I had to make several visits to was Victoria's Secret and it was all about the beauty section for me. Luckily I was in the States when Victoria's Secret had their semi annual sale on so I managed to grab some amazing bargains. These ordinarily retail for $12 and I think I got these with either 60% or 70% off which is pretty crazy! I really wish I had picked up many, many more of these in different scents when I had the opportunity to but I didn't think I would fall in love with these products as much as I did.

There are so many incredible scents to choose from that I was a little overwhelmed when I first entered the fragrance section of the store but I finally settled on these two; Secret Crush and Berry Kiss. Secret Crush is all about the peach blossom scent which I'm completely in love with, mixed in with a lovely peony scent too. Whereas Berry Kiss has a beautiful raspberry scent with warm praline undertones. Both are just absolutely divine!

Since this is a body mist and not a perfume the scent doesn't last all day but it definitely lasts a good number of hours before I happily reapply later in the day. Both mists are infused with conditioning Aloe Vera and calming Chamomile so they really will be perfect when it comes to the warmer months. I've been wearing mine recently to cheer me up on the cold, rainy winter mornings.

I just wish I could buy directly from Victoria's Secret here in the UK. I know they have a couple of stores down South but a UK based website would be incredible or even a Scottish store location. You can find these fragrance mists on Ebay but I am always a little weary about buying certain products from Ebay sellers. I'm going back to the US later this year so I'll definitely be stocking up on even more scents. Has anyone got any recommendations? I especially want to try out Strawberries & Champagne .

Have you tried any of the fragrance mists before? If so, what are your favourite scents? If not, which ones would you like to try out?

Soap & Glory Sexy Mother Pucker™ XL Lip Plumping Gloss

Soap & Glory Sexy Mother Pucker Gloss

Soap & Glory Sexy Mother Pucker™ XL Extreme-Plump* £10

If you read my post on the Benefit Dandelion lip gloss then you will already know that I'm not the biggest fan of lip glosses. The majority that I've tried over the years have been pretty disappointing, either because they end up a sticky mess or because they last about five minutes. So I'm always looking out for lip glosses that thoroughly impress me and this Soap & Glory plumping gloss definitely falls into that category.

I spent most of my teenage years wearing a tingly mint flavoured lip gloss, which as far as I can remember was from the FCUK beauty range in Boots. Does anyone remember this gloss? I think every girl in my high school was obsessed with it, myself included. As a result of this I'm quite used to the almost pins and needles effect that some of these lip plumping products are famous for. This certainly has a significant tingling effect on the lips, one that tends to last for about ten minutes after application. When this was happening I checked out my lips in the mirror to find that the gloss was already starting to puff up my lips in a noticeable fashion.

I think if you're not a fan of lip plumping products or you have had a problem with them in the past then you may want to try this out at your local Boots or Sephora before you purchase it.

Again, I've been completely won over by the smell of this product. Soap & Glory really know what they are doing when it comes to the scents of their different product lines. This shade, Pink Out Loud, smells just like strawberries and cream and has a taste to match. It's simply amazing!

Overall I was really impressed with this lip gloss. It definitely gave my lips an added boost and does what it says on the tube. It also had the added benefit of leaving my lips feeling baby soft even after the gloss had worn off. From what I've tried from Soap & Glory so far, they are all about the moisturising aspect of their products. I can't wait to try out more of the Soap & Glory make up range. I've got my eye on the Sexy Mother Pucker gloss sticks as every time I pass by their make up stand I'm constantly drawn to the Bashfull shade which just looks divine.

Have you tried this gloss before? What do you think of Soap & Glory’s make-up range?

What I've Been Watching: On Valentine's Day

I've seen a lot of Valentine's Day posts in the past couple of days but since I'm planning on spending my day in my pyjamas whilst eating my own body weight in junk food and ice cream, I felt like many of them didn't really apply to a singleton like myself. So if like me you're not too fussed about Valentine's Day or you're spending it on your own or having a movie marathon with your fellow single friends, then these are the movies I recommend you give a watch today, if you aren't already.

Crazy, Stupid, Love (2011)
Starring: Steve Carell, Ryan Gosling, Julianne Moore, Emma Stone
Crazy, Stupid, Love isn't just your average rom-com. The first time I watched this I was genuinely surprised at some points, now this is always a big plus for me when it comes to a romantic comedy. If that doesn't sell it to you then all I need to say is Ryan Gosling gets his top off and it's a glorious sight! I often always imagine myself in Emma Stone's shoes when it comes to the Dirty Dancing lift scene. What more could you want on Valentine's Day?

Starring: Amy Adams, Matthew Goode, Adam Scott
Matthew Goode just looks so good in this movie hehe. Leap Year is a fun and frivolous romp through Ireland and is also the perfect movie to watch before or after my next choice, especially if you are a fan of Irish accents or actors attempting to do an Irish accent. Adam Scott also appears in this as Amy Adams' boyfriend and considering his Parks & Recreation character Ben Wyatt is basically my dream man, this is just another reason to give this movie a watch.

Starring: Hilary Swank, Gerard Butler, Lisa Kudrow, Harry Connick Jr.
If you want to let it all out and have a good cry this Valentine's Day then P.S I Love You is the way to go. I don't think I've watched this once without crying at least a couple of times.

Forgetting Sarah Marshall (2008)
Starring: Jason Segel, Kristen Bell, Mila Kunis, Russell Brand
If you are in the mood to laugh this Valentine's Day then I definitely recommend the next three movies. Forgetting Sarah Marshall has to be one of my favourite movies of all time. I've been in love with Jason Segel for quite some time (hello Nick Andopolis from Freaks & Geeks) and he's definitely on top form in this movie.

Starring: Kate Hudson, Matthew McConaughey, Kathryn Hahn
I've seen this movie so many times that I can now practically act it out but that doesn't stop it from being one of my favourites all these years later. Even just thinking about this movie makes me want to belt out Carly Simon's You're So Vain at the top of my lungs hehe.

Starring: Adam Sandler, Drew Barrymore, Christine Taylor
This movie is all about the 80's references for me. It has everything you could ever want from a movie set in 1980's; the hairstyles, the music, the fashion, and of course, Billy Idol. I have so much love for this movie, it's one that I come back to again and again when I need cheering up.

The Wedding Date (2005)
Starring: Debra Messing, Dermot Mulroney, Amy Adams
The Wedding Date may not be as well known as some of the other movies on this list but I'm glad I discovered it all those years ago. The premise of this movie does sound a little sketchy, Debra Messing hires Dermot Mulroney as a male escort to accompany her to her little sister's wedding, but stick with it.

Starring: Owen Wilson, Rachel McAdams, Marion Cotillard, Michael Sheen
While couples are whisking each other off to Paris for Valentine's Day, singletons like myself can get a feel for the romanticism and beauty of Paris from this gem of a movie. The opening scenes in particular just make me want to pack my bags and get on a plane bound for Paris.

Starring: Ryan Gosling, Rachel McAdams, James Garner, Gena Rowlands
Basically I couldn't do this list without including The Notebook. It goes without saying that this is the one rom-com you just need to see, at least once or hundreds of times if you are me. I'll try not to spoil it for you in case you haven't seen it but this movie is the reason I'm so in love/obsessed with Ryan Gosling.

So these are just a few of my favourite rom-coms, ones that I feel are Valentine's Day appropriate. Whatever you are up to this Valentine's Day, I hope you have a lovely day.

Have you seen any of these movies? What are your favourite romantic comedies? Do you have any recommendations?

What I got for my birthday

So yesterday was my 22nd birthday (cue me singing Taylor Swift’s 22 on more than one occasion, hehe). I had such a lovely day and got some wonderful gifts that I thought I would share with you. Since I love a good haul post and I’m also a little bit nosey, I’m a big fan of ‘What I got for my birthday’ posts and I hope that you like these kind of posts too. So here’s what I got for my birthday;

Liz Earle Cleanse and Polish Hot Cloth Cleanser Starter Kit – Nails Inc Best Dressed Collection

I can’t wait to start trying out Cleanse and Polish. I feel like I’m the only person in the beauty blogging community who hasn’t used this before. And as for this Nails Inc collection, I’ve had my eye on this collection for so many months and I’m so excited to swatch some of these amazing special effect polishes.

I’ll be doing a review of both of these products in the upcoming weeks.

Topshop Leopard Print Satchel – Alphabet Bags Make Up Bag

I'm completely in love with both of these bags.

Topshop Lace Trim Socks

I don’t know how I didn’t own any of these lovely little socks before so I can’t wait to start wearing them to add a little something different to my winter boots.

The Way Way Back – The Place beyond the Pines – About Time – Now You See Me

I’d asked for three of these DVDs in my Birthday Wishlist post but my mum surprised me again by adding a little bit of Gosling into the equation. For the past couple of birthdays I’ve always received a Ryan Gosling DVD so it’s now becoming a bit of a tradition.

Disney Dumbo Pyjamas – Rosie for Autograph Pyjama Shirt – Peanuts Snoopy Cuffed Pyjama Bottoms

I think my mum had definitely been reading my blog or heard me going on and on about the lovely Snoopy and Dumbo pyjamas. She also picked up a beautiful pyjama shirt from the Rosie for Autograph range as she knows I’m pretty obsessed with all of Rosie’s gorgeous items.

Florence & Fred Shopping is my workout sweatshirt

This is basically my life mantra emblazoned on a sweatshirt. And it doesn’t hurt that this instantly reminded me of the Wildfox Shopping is my cardio sweater.

Haribo Gold Bears

And of course no birthday is complete without some sweets!

I hope you enjoyed this post. I’m away to eat some more birthday cake and choose a movie to watch from the DVD’s I received. Which one should I watch first?

Alberto Balsam Tea Tree Tingle Shampoo

Alberto Balsam Tea Tree Tingle Shampoo
Alberto Balsam Tea Tree Tingle Shampoo

I remember using tea tree products in my early teens to deal with the occasional spots and breaks out I was prone to at that age but after that I foolishly neglected tea tree based products, until now.

I feel like all I ever say when I’m reviewing moisturising products is just how dry my skin has been recently and it is no different when it comes to my scalp. I have no idea what’s going on here, I’ve been blaming the cold weather so hopefully it will all clear up soon but until then I’ve had an increase in the amount of flakes emanating from my scalp.

I love the smell of this shampoo. It’s so minty and fresh and wakes me up immediately when I’m having my morning shower. I’ve been using this for about a month now and I can definitely confirm that the flakes have reduced, even if it has only been a slight reduction. I suppose it doesn’t claim to get rid of flakes like a shampoo such as Head & Shoulders so I can’t really complain too much. While it’s not quite cleared up my scalp, it has made my hair so incredibly soft. When I am giving my hair its final rinse it literally feels squeaky clean, so for 99p I would certainly recommend this to anyone looking for a cost-effective shampoo that delivers really clean hair every time.

I picked my bottle up from Superdrug for only 99p plus it is on a 3 for 2 deal at the moment which means you grab three bottles of Alberto Balsam shampoos or conditioners for only £2. Now it doesn’t get much better than that.

What are your favourites from Alberto Balsam? Are you a fan of budget hair care or do you prefer to spend more when it comes to looking after your hair? I’m actually planning on trying out the Philip Kingsley Itchy/Flaky Scalp Shampoo to see how a more expensive product works on my hair and scalp.

Treat your feet with Soap & Glory

Soap & Glory Heel Genius Foot Buffer Review

Over the past couple of months I've been on my feet quite a bit. Whether it be from rushing around the shops doing my Christmas shopping or subsequently rushing around the shops doing my sales shopping, my feet have got a little sore and my soles and heels are noticeably drier. Since I’ll soon be banishing the boots for a little while, once the weather starts to get a bit better, I thought it was about time I dealt with my tired feet.

I recently made a little trip to my local Boots to see if I could find the answer to my problem and like every time I enter Boots I was pulled towards the Soap & Glory stand. One product stood out straight away as the clue was basically in the name and it was Heel Genius™.

Soap & Glory Heel Genius

Soap & Glory Heel Genius™ £5.50

I thought this would just be your traditional foot cream but trust Soap & Glory to put an interesting spin on it. It’s like a gel and cream hybrid which was something I didn’t expect at all. The consistency immediately feels really soothing on the skin. As soon as you smell this it instantly reminds you of all your favourite Soap & Glory products but in addition to this it has a lovely hint of mint which I really love.

I use Heel Geniuson a weekly basis by applying a copious amount and then putting on a pair of cotton socks before going to sleep. When I wake up in the morning my feet feel softer than they ever have before.

Soap & Glory Foot Buffer

Soap & Glory™ Foot Buffer £8.75

I did quite a bit of research before buying this foot buffer as there seem to be so many different foot files and buffers on the market at the moment. After reading many excellent reviews I decided to take the plunge with this one.

Not only does it have a large rough side to it and an equally large smooth side, it also has a mini file hidden in the handle. I was thoroughly impressed when I found that and as soon as I started using it I completely understood why many others had instantly loved it.

This really is the perfect duo for me when it comes to looking after your feet as well as giving them some pampering after a long day or week when your feet need a little rest and relaxation.

Have you tried either of these products? Do you have any recommendations on how to keep your feet in tip top condition?

Nails Inc Nail Polish Diary: February

Nails Inc Nail Polish Diary St. Martin's Lane Beauty review swatch

February's nail polish is St. Martin’s Lane, the new glossy grape trend polish from Nails Inc.

I was really surprised that despite the vast extent of my nail polish collection, I didn’t already own a colour quite like this. In the bottle it looks a lot darker than it does on the nail. I wasn’t really wowed by this polish until I swatched it and saw all the different shades of purple, ones that I definitely wasn’t expecting when I first looked at the bottle. In different lights St. Martin’s Lane looks almost fuchsia, whereas in others in looks like wine or berry. It seems like it could be the kind of colour that you could perfectly match to your favourite lipstick.

This gorgeous polish really is the perfect shade for the winter months.

I tried to find a link for you to check out this polish but it seems to be a limited edition shade. You can, however, get St. Martin’s Lane in this collection on Look Fantastic.

What are your favourite colours or shades to wear in the winter months?

Soap & Glory Make Yourself Youthful™ Super Serum

Soap & Glory Make Yourself Youthful

Soap & Glory Make Yourself Youthful Super Serum*

Soap & Glory Make Yourself Youthful

My skin has been drier than ever this winter and I’ve been searching for the perfect solution to nourish my parched skin. I can safely say Soap & Glory have done it again with the Make Yourself Youthful™ Super Serum. I was already a huge fan of their moisturising body butters (see post here) but I hadn’t tried any of the Soap & Glory skincare range before. Now I’m hooked on this product I’ll definitely be checking out their skincare stand in my local Boots store.

Is it strange to be completely in love with a product’s packaging? I think it's okay in this instance though as it just looks so incredibly sleek and high end. The pump applicator is also really handy in dispensing the product, which is always a bonus for me when it comes to skincare items.

The Make Yourself Youthful™ Super Serum has a really subtle scent but it still has a touch of that trademark Soap & Glory sweetness. When I first smelled this all I could think was that this smells exactly like Rowntrees Tootie Frooties which is basically the best smell anything could ever have hehe.

So I was sold on the scent and the packaging before I had even applied the serum to my face. For me, this product is all about the moisture and this was the perfect remedy to my dry and often flaky skin. My skin feels softer, smoother and altogether more hydrated since I’ve started using this. I’ve been using this instead of a moisturiser but you can also wear it under your normal moisturiser if you prefer. Again, I want to make it clear that my skin is really rather sensitive and this hasn’t irritated my skin in the slightest which makes it a winner for me. As I may only be in my early twenties, I can’t really comment on how it deals with anti-aging on a more mature skin but I have noticed a visible change in the fine lines I do have. A little also goes a long way with this product. I use one to two pumps for my entire face morning and night.

Have you tried out any of the Soap & Glory skincare range? What is your must-have product from this range?

There is currently 1/3 off selected Soap & Glory products in Boots at the moment. If you want to try out some of their skincare range in particular then I would definitely take advantage of this great offer.
