My Top 5 Dream Winter Getaway Destinations

best places to visit in january for sun

Surely I'm not the only one of us dreaming of a Winter getaway right now. There's something about knowing that we are a good few months away from what will hopefully be warmer and sunnier weather *fingers crossed*, that has me longing for sunkissed skin and wearing some of my favourite Summer dresses, even if only for a few days.

So I thought that I would share some of my top picks when it comes to Winter sun getaways.

Here are the 5 places that I would head to first, to get some much needed sunshine, warm air and Summer vibes, whilst we're still in the depths of Winter here in the UK;

iberostar cancun star prestige reviews

Mexico

I'd never thought of visiting Mexico before but after seeing quite a few bloggers visit the likes of Tulum and Cancun, I now somehow can't get it out of my mind. I would love to spend a few days or even a week, by the pool with a good book in one hand and a cocktail in the other.

I've actually not done an all-inclusive or resort-style holiday since I visited Spain when I was about eight years old, so I do feel like I am well overdue that kind of trip sometime soon. I normally pack my schedule full of things to see and do when I'm on holiday (when I got back from New York, I felt like I needed another holiday, preferably a more relaxing one just to recover from it) so it would be really nice to adopt a slower pace of life for a little bit. That and to turn off my phone, apart from to take a few photos of my #hotdoglegs and choice of book/cocktail combo. The Iberostar CancĂșn Star Prestige immediately caught my eye when Iberostar got in touch to see if I'd like to work with them on today's blog post.

An adults-only resort: yes! A private beach and a VIP area: hell yes! It's one of their Star Prestige properties, which offer up an exclusive experience. There are superior rooms, exclusive areas like a sun terrace and lounge and exclusive services such as private check-in in an exclusive area, late check-out, when available and premium beverages. The white sandy beach location, stretching out to the crystal clear blue waters has me ready to pack my suitcase and go right now. Where's my passport?!

Dubai

I've mentioned in a few previous blog posts how much I would love to one day visit Dubai and that thought certainly hasn't left my mind recently. I think it may have a lot to do with me watching both Josie from Fashion Mumblr and the Michalak's Dubai vlogs on YouTube. Talk about dream vacations!

Unlike Mexico, I have quite the list of places and things that I'd like to check off my Dubai bucket list, like traversing across the sand dunes, taking in the view from the Burj Khalifa, hitting the lazy river at the water park, shopping at the Dubai mall and taking in the nighttime fountain display. The Dubai Miracle Garden, is easily at the top of my list though. I mean, how beautiful does it look?! I would truly be in my element and can only imagine how many photos I could take.

iberostar fuerteventura palace

Fuerteventura

A little bit closer to home, we have the second largest of Spain's Canary Islands; Fuerteventura. Located only a few hours away from the UK, this would make for the perfect long weekend location. Imagine going at Easter and spending your time on the beach instead of inside with the heating turned on and a chocolate Easter egg in your hand!

Iberostar have a beautiful hotel located in Fuerteventura, the 5 star Fuerteventura Palace, which sounds right up my street. With 4 pools to choose from and it being an adults only property, you won't find it hard to relax at this hotel. The rooms in this particular resort also look so fresh and bright and with the sea being right on your doorstep, can you imagine springing out of bed in the morning instead of dragging yourself out of bed in the dark, like you would be back home at this time of year.

The on-site spa and surroundings at this particular hotel are also unreal! I would love to indulge in a spot of pampering. And who wouldn't want to be sat at this table, having breakfast or brunch, right now? Or taking advantage of the hotel's 24 hour room service? I know I sure would.

Cuba

Another top pick for soaking up the Winter sun is Cuba.

The architecture, vintage cars and general aesthetic of the place has long had me dreaming of visiting one day. Know that I am singing 'Havana' right now as I type out this specific paragraph and thinking of how many incredible photo opps there would be on this trip. It would also be great to learn more about the history of the country and to take in some of the museums, parks and peninsulas during my stay.

Miami

And last but certainly not least, we have Miami. Now, I visit Florida pretty frequently with my family but we don't ever venture too far away from our base just outside of Orlando. One year I would absolutely love to make the trip to Miami, either directly from the UK or whilst we're already in the Sunshine State.

The Art Deco styling of Ocean Drive and South Beach is just so impressive and I would also definitely be up for cruising by Star Island to see if I could catch a glimpse of the likes of Gloria Estefan. Whilst singing her epic back catalogue of hits, of course. After watching The Assination Of Gianni Versace, I would also love to pay the Versace mansion a visit, even if only to see what the hotel it has been turned into has done with the place. We also never really get the chance to spend any time at the beach, when we're in Orlando, so I would certainly love to do some of that, at least until a pale skinned redhead like me would need to head back into the air conditioning.

Where would you love to visit in the Winter months to escape the UK for a few days/weeks? Have you visited any of the locations on my list today? If so, what did you think of them? And are you more of a fan of sitting by the pool or pounding the pavements to explore, when you're on holiday?
